I honestly tried to post this past week, I really did. I was relying on something interesting happening in the labs I TA, given that I'm working with 23 freshmen in close proximity to numerous instruments, machines and chemicals that could spontaneously create gold. (Of the LJ type. If any of them find out how to create actual gold from the experiments they're doing, I'm either going to stone them for being a witch or just patent the procedure and buy an island in the Caribbean.) However, nothing has really happened so far. There have been incidents, but most of them require basic chemistry knowledge to be humorous. The most bizarre thing that's happened is that I've actually had half of an entire class fall asleep during lab, since they had some 30 minute downtimes and nothing to do.
The most noteworthy thing to happen so far is my getting chewed out by a professor for having, as I told shiftyeyeddogg, "my pre-lab lecture run into his ego." I actually wrote up a whole post on it, then chickened out after I read this. Seems like not a smart idea to post derisive comments online for anyone to read. I'll just say that the worst part of the whole ordeal was that the guy sounded like a grown up version of Piglet. You try being calm and straightfaced while being berated by Winnie the Pooh's best friend.
On the whole, I do like lecturing. Running the lab? Not quite as much fun. They're burning things this week, though - we'll see if that spices things up.
As a final side note, doesn't this person look like Jana Fox? (Ann is both one of my profs and my advisor.) I finally placed the other day who I thought she looked like. The picture really isn't the greatest, as the similarities are much more prevalent in person. Just curious if anyone else thinks so - the only other person here form WU never knew Jana.
